Marketplace & Community

Finding and Sharing Plugins

An ecosystem thrives on its community. A rapidly growing network of plugins, MCP servers, and resources has developed around Claude Code, making it significantly easier to get started -- and allowing you to share your own solutions with others.

The Official Marketplace

The official plugin marketplace is GitHub-based. Plugins are published as GitHub repositories containing a marketplace.json manifest. You can:

  • Browse plugins -- by searching GitHub repositories with the marketplace.json format
  • Install plugins -- directly from within Claude Code by referencing the repository
  • Submit your own plugins -- by creating a GitHub repository with a valid marketplace.json

The marketplace uses a decentralized, Git-based model rather than a centralized platform.

Plugin Commands

In Claude Code, you manage plugins via the /plugin command:

/plugin install security-toolkit     # Install a plugin
/plugin list # Show installed plugins
/plugin update security-toolkit      # Update a plugin
/plugin remove security-toolkit      # Remove a plugin

*Try Out Plugins

You can test plugins before installing them by loading them locally with claude --plugin-dir ./path-to-plugin. This way you see exactly what the plugin does before permanently installing it.

Community Catalogs

In addition to the official marketplace, there are community-maintained catalogs and collections:

  • claudemarketplaces.com -- Curated collection of plugins and MCP servers with ratings
  • buildwithclaude.com -- Showcases and templates for Claude Code projects

These community catalogs often offer more experimental plugins and faster updates than the official marketplace, but without the same quality assurance.

!Review Community Plugins

For plugins from unofficial sources, you should always review the source code before installing them. Pay special attention to hooks and MCP server configurations -- these potentially have far-reaching system access.

Enterprise: Managed Plugins

In corporate environments, IT departments need control over which plugins and MCP servers developers are allowed to use. Claude Code supports this via Managed Configuration:

Allowlist and Denylist

Via managed-mcp.json, administrators can specify:

{
  "allowlist": ["approved-security-plugin", "company-deploy-tool"],
  "denylist": ["untrusted-plugin-*"],
  "mcpServers": {
    "company-jira": {
      "url": "https://mcp.company.internal/jira"
    }
  }
}
  • Allowlist -- Only these plugins may be installed
  • Denylist -- These plugins are explicitly blocked (supports wildcards)
  • Managed MCP Servers -- Centrally provided servers that are automatically available to all developers

This configuration is centrally distributed and cannot be overridden by individual developers.
